DIY Off-Shoulder Top from Your Boyfriend’s Closet

DIY Off-Shoulder Top from Your Boyfriend’s Closet

Hello Beautiful!

It was a productive weekend for me – done my domestic works, grocery shopping good for a week or two, washed and done pressing my clothes (yup I did great on that), and also finished transferring my photos to my hard drive and cleaning my phones, etc.

While I was checking on my hard drive, I just realized that I’ve captured so many photos last two years that I haven’t shared with you. Lots of DIY tutorials travel-related posts, more foodie and restaurant hopping, etc.

And surprisingly, I always thought that I have nothing to share, but I’m wrong. Or maybe I wasn’t inspired to write during those days, and just keep on compiling these photographs.

But am here again and would like to share with you another tutorial that I’ve documented months ago.

I guess you are also one of the ladies who got a penchant for off-shoulder dresses and tops. Because me too!

Once it got a hit since last year, I started browsing my favorite online store, many fashion pages, and even visiting some brick-and-mortar stores at the mall for some affordable top that suits my style and taste, but I failed to get one.

Do you know why?

Because I find them fucking expensive!!!

Yes, I want it but I know it’s not reasonable for me to spend a thousand peso on a single top. It really scares me to the bones. No matter how my Dada convinced me to get it (and if I don’t want to pay, he will) still I can’t take those tops.

I know that I can still feed my off-shoulder top/dress cravings in other means.

Then one day, I was organizing my Dada’s closet, when I found his white shirt.

I’ve seen this shirt for a while and I know that he wasn’t wearing it. Then suddenly an idea pops in my head!

Then I thought “…Why not I steal this white shirt and make myself an off-shoulder top? And then save the cash he gave me..”

Yeah, I had that devilish smile while taking out that white shirt in his closet. Anyway, he was in a business meeting for the whole day, and I hope for the best that, he wouldn’t notice it was gone, LOL.

Sshhhhh Nekko, you shut up!

With that awesome idea still stocked in my head, I grabbed my scissor, needle, and white thread and happily sitting on the floor, ready to destroy his white shirt.

And when I started cutting it… oooppss! Too late I realized, it’s his Ralph Lauren shirt he got from a few months ago. OMG, I’m fucked.

Well, I’ll just deny that I didn’t see that shirt, LOL

OMG am a devilish girlfriend!!!!

Okay am not going to teach you how to steal your boyfriend’s shirt (but if you want that’s cute too!) LOL

So here’s how I made my off-shoulder top using my boyfriend’s shirt.

When you finally found the shirt that you want (according to its color, fabric texture, and designs), make a mark using a pencil or fabric crayon, and line your shirt just like the photo above.

It is better to get a much bigger shirt to create more volume of your top, and also to make it as your dress too!

Once you’ve lined your shirt, start cutting it and getting rid of the excess part (I’ve managed to hide it and throw it after so that my boyfriend wouldn’t fund evidence of my crime, lol).

Then using your white thread and needle, start sewing the upper part and make a space to insert a garter. Sew it thoroughly, insert the garter and connect both ends.

And Voila! I have my white off-shoulder top!

Isn’t it gorgeous?

My boyfriend’s shirt is to biggie for me which is a huge PLUS!

I didn’t spend a single centavo for my top, just a little time squatting on my floor, while praying I wouldn’t get caught, LOL.

And that thought of wearing my boyfriend's shirt is actually kind of romantic, and at the same time kind of alluring and arousing for me. LOL

It’s like am wearing him during that day, and like accompanying me elsewhere. Well, it’s the thing that I have for my boyfriend (I don’t know yet if he notices, am so shy to admit it to him).

I could also tie up the hemline, and roll up my sleeves for a different look!

I KNOW NEKKO! – BUT IF YOU DO YOU WILL NEVER GET SNACKS FROM ME, I SWEAR! LOL

And if you don’t have a boyfriend to steal his shirt (I know I could feel you, babe) don’t worry because you can still make this DIY off-shoulder shirt. Visit your nearest vintage shops (or ukay-ukay stores) and for just Php50.00 you can get a good quality men’s shirt! Start hoarding for those shirts, and don’t forget to soak it overnight with your favorite detergent, because nobody likes to get itchy wearing those shirts, LOL.

Recently, I’ve visited my favorite vintage shops and bought some men’s shirts I could found. In the meantime, I will pass on checking my boyfriend’s closet because I might end up destroying his Dolce & Gabbana shirt. LOL

I’ve also made an off-shoulder top, originally my summer skirt. I’ve worn it during my appearanceat the Silka event last year.

The moment I thought my boyfriend wouldn’t recognize his shirt, I dared myself to wear it during our lunch date. I was feeling so proud that somehow he didn’t give much attention to it, just casually saying that “… you looked gorgeous as always.”

After our lunch date and visiting a couple of stores for market research, we’ve decided to go home for a quick nap. And as he casually unbuttoning my shirt (as we always do), he leaned over and said “… you thought I didn’t notice, it’s my Ralph Lauren shirt.”

“I found a white thread laying around, and I know you did that crime.. again.”

LOL, I was caught!

Damn, I thought I was good in hiding, LOL but I failed again. My boyfriend is really good.

It’s hard to hide things from him… LOL

Hope you ladies have learned something about DIY-ing your shirt and make it fit yours! If you know of any DIY-ing projects please I would love to learn yours!

xoxo, Blair

    1. Hello Olivia,

I didn't know it was brand new, and there is no tag on it. And then I remember that he got a habit of removing tags. And I haven't seen him wearing it, so I thought maybe I could steal it and deconstruct, LOL

Anyway it turns out he likes me creation (but not my crime, though). hahaha
